The Seed & Stem 2024 Trends Report

This morning I woke up and breathed in a big old breath of 2024, and I feel really excited to take everything I learnt last year and the trends I saw come and go, things that inspired me and build on these for this year’s weddings.

I thought it might be fun to start the year with Seed & Stem’s 2024 wedding industry predictions…

1.Curated Colour

Colour is already on the rise, last year over 50% of our weddings were blue & peach tones, towards the latter end of last year I saw more requests for weddings where the colour palette was a range of hues in the same colour. I think we are going to see much more of these monochromatic weddings this year, and I’m so excited about it! It’s a daring leap away from the mix of smaller flowers we’ve known and loved, and won’t be for everyone, but when orchestrated well, this will be a real talking point for guests. The wedding below was ‘sunset tones’ and I really loved how the hues of orange and pink came together for such a contemporary feel.

2. Single Variety

This is something I am a huge fan of already. Popular in contemporary weddings and those looking for a less countryside more city chic style to their day, arrangements using only one variety of flower. Examples of this looking amazing are there in both the small and the large, lots of bud vases overflowing with only one kind of flower per vase, and flower clouds of all Amaranthus, Bracken or Gypsophila. Giving that single flower the chance to speak out and be seen from every angle, often in different stages of opening and hue as well.

3. Green, but make it new

I love a wild grass, it easily adds so much movement and texture. I think we’re going to see a shift to more intentional greenery in 2024. We’ve already seen the popularity rise in flower-only bouquets in 2023- something I favour, but this year I think we will see new greenery becoming popular, and a rise in the use of plants and trees at weddings. Texture and shape play a hugely important part in bouquet assembly and also in centrepiece structure, waving grasses like Quaking Grass have gorgeous natural movement and interesting shape, and Geranium foliage smells so divine, it’s a no-brainer for adding a wedding scent, we can’t wait to see more bold choices with greenery this year!

4. Fruit is here to stay

We saw a huge rise in the use of fruit in weddings towards the end of 2022 and throughout 2023 and this is only just picking up. Pomegranates and oranges on tables have been everywhere, and I’m here for it! But for me, it’s the English fruits and the not so traditional fruits that I’m looking forward to seeing, Gooseberrys, Elderberries, Pears and Sloes. A lovely way to invite the outside in, to include something British and surprise guests.

5. Statement Installations

Okay, so big installations have been around forever, I know - but this year we’re seeing a huge increase of couples putting at least 60% of their budget into one large statement piece, such as an arch, hanging cloud or ladder and lots of large meadows. I always say to couples, what will you and your guests remember florally from the day, what will make memorable photos for you? Chances are it’s not bud vases in the loo, it’s a huge arch overflowing with blooms, or a ground arch with potted plants, or something we haven’t even dreamed up together yet! I am a big fan of BIG. Budgets are really pushed this year, off the back of the Cost of Living crisis, so we can expect to see a less is more approach to individual items on quotes and a couple of statement installations instead.
